2nd Annual Ribs n Blues, July 19th

Excitement is building for the the 2nd Shrewbury Ribs n Blues festival to be held Sat. July 19th, 3pm to 10pm at the Shrewsbury Community Centre, 112 New Scotland Line, . Join the fun, bring your friends and lawnchairs and enjoy the smell and taste of the best ribs this side of Detroit and fill your ears with sweet music while having a cold beverage under a warm summer sky. Proceeds from the event go to the Shrewsbury Community Centre to upgrade and repair the building and park. Sponsors include Molson Canadian, Subway, South Kent Wind, BFI, SM Freight, the Book Brothers, Augs Video and the Canada South Blues Society.

Along with the awesome ribs are 5 great bands to enjoy. Co-headlining will be the Howling Diablos and the Groove Council, both from the Detroit area. Also on the bill are Waterloo's Daddy Long Legs along with local favourites Blues on the Rocks and Tom Lockwood and Friends. The Howling Diablos are Detroit's #1 blues party band, mixing rock, funk and blues into one energetic package. Since their formation in the 90's, they have toured with many national acts along with headlining their own shows and have the distinction of being Kid Rock's original band. It's always a party when the Diablos hit the stage! The Groove Council is a 9 piece horn driven band featuring Kathleen Murray. When you put Kathleen's powerful vocals over a cookin' rythym section and layer on some tasty horns, you get a delicious blend of soul, R&B and funk that keeps audiences out of their chairs and on the dance floor. Groove Council is the band to catch when you need some funky horn driven R&B. Daddy Long Legs, based out of Waterloo, On. are well known for their racous and energetic live performances. With 5 albums released to date, they are blazing a new trail for the blues, giving it a new vital voice that is both modern and retro with the right amount of garage thrown in...This ain't your grandma's blues, this is Daddy Long Legs! Blues on the Rocks is a rockin' blues band hailing from Chatham/Kent. Consisting of Mike Copley (vocals), Rick Chrysler (drums), Dwayne Purdy (bass), Tom Starks (keys) and Alex 'Aug' Polowick (guitar). They are a fun, energetic band, from Allman Brothers and Freddie King along with their own original material, they are a band not to be missed! Tom Lockwood is one of the area's most popular and noted guitarists. He will be joined by Dan Taylor (vocals) and Mike La Plante on harp.

Tickets are $20 advance or $25 at the door and can be purchased at either Aug's Video (Blenheim or Chatham locations) along with Kakoon Spa in Ridgetown and Book Brothers in Chatham or call Ken Bell for more info 519-676-9903. This is a licenced event and is rain or shine. Get your tickets early as tickets are limited. No outside food or beverages are allowed to be brought into the event.
Meals will be $15.00 for ribs, chicken or a combo. All meals will include Detroit Style beans, fantastic coleslaw, buttered roll.
For those who prefer a vegetarian/vegan fare there will be a booth with delicious delights prepared by the amazing Emily Meko (owner of Eat What’s Good, in Chatham).

How much are tickets, drinks & meals?
        Tickets, $20.00 advance $25 at the gate, Meals $15.00, drinks $5.00.

What about rain?
        Rain or shine, we have shaded tents with tables and the community center.

Can I buy meals separately?
        Yes, but we have no seating so it would be take out.

Can I come and go?
         Yes we will provide wristbands.

What if I've had too much to drink?
         Patrons (as far as chatham) will be offered a ride home, with their vehicle, thanks to Safeway Home. Street closures and public washrooms will be maintained until Sunday.

What about Security?
         We have hired professional security and the Blenheim Fire dept. EMS will be onsite.
